This year, the import of iron ore will go on increasing largely, and the imports may top 80m tones.

| The second phase of Baoxin stainless steel began building |
It's reported that the second phase of Baoxin stainless steel in Ningpo began building a few days ago. The total investment was 1.3bnYuan.
This project will introduce a set of cold mill, a bright unit and a cold acid annealing unit. The capacity of stainless cold sheet will increase 80,000 tones, in which,48,000 tones are high quality bright luster sheet. After this project completed, Ningpo will be of 160,000 tones capacity of stainless cold sheet yearly, and occupy the advanced place in China.

| Nangang bar production line put into operation |
300,000t bar production line in Nanjing Iron and Steel Group Co.Ltd. put into operation a few days ago. It's estimated that this project will add 700m Yuan for
Nangang.
The total investment was 100m Yuan and the designed capacity was 300,000t/y reinforced bar(diameter 12~32mm) and prime round steel(diameter 16~32mm).

| China coking industry turned well |
According to some statistics, China coke output was 122m tones last year, in which 84.3m tones coke from machinery oven,37.2m tones coke from primitive oven. Compared with 1999,the coke from machinery oven added near 5.84m tones, the coke from primitive oven reduced 3.01m tones. It's shown that the eliminating coke from primitive oven had made great progress.

| Kungang 600,000 tones hot strip mill put into production next year |
Kunming Iron and Steel Corporation began building hot strip mill in December 2000,and it's estimated to put into operation in the latter half of 2002.The equipment includes second refining system, Steckel mill and a set of cold rolling mill. The total investment for the equipment is 2.15b Yuan. The designed annual capacity is 400,000 tones of 1.2~20mm hot coil,400,000 tones of cold coil. In the 600,000 tones hot coil,460,000 tones used for cold rolling,140,000 tones for sale.
