Rheological Behavior of Bauxite-Based SiC-Containing Castables

YE Fangbao,M.Rigaud,LIU Xinhong and ZHONG Xiangchong (1) 3
Abstract
Low cement (LC) and ultra-low cement (ULC) bauxite-SiC castables are important, high performance monolithic refractories and they have been widely used in iron-making and incinerator linings. In this work, rheological behavior of LC and ULC bauxite-based SiC-containing castables has been studied, including the effects of SiC content and cement content on rheological properties of the castables. The results show that with an increase of SiC and cement content, rheological properties of the castables deteriorate. On the other hand, moderate amounts of SiC (4% ~ 8 %) and of calcium aluminate cement (2% ~ 4%) have very slight influence on rheological properties, (i.e. when the castables are sheared their torque and yield torque only slightly increase with the shearing speed). The rheological characteristics of the castables follow Bingham fluid and always show shear thinning behavior.

Development of Refractories for Continuous Casting

TIAN Shouxin,JINCongjin,YAO Jinfu and LI Zeya (1) 9
Abstract
The paper introduces refractories for continuous casting, especially, refractories for continuous casting for clean steel in baosteel. Developing direction of refractories for continuous casting has been pointed out to satisfy the new metallurgical operating practice.

Compositions and Properties of Hydration-Resistant Coating of Magnesia-Calcia Materials

GU Huazhi,WANG Houzhi,HONG Yanruo,ZHANG Wenjie,SUN Jialin and OUYANG Junhua(1)14
Abstract
The complex coating on the MgO-CaO clinker was prepared by dipping method and adding the second mineral to restrain the formation and expansion of the cracks. Meanwhile, the microstructure, the morphology of the coating and hydration resistance of the MgO-CaO clinker were also investigated. The result shows that the coating consists mainly of Ca2P2O7, MgO and CaCO3, its thickness ranges from 5¦̀m to 20¦̀m, and the coating is dense and even, no micro-cracks are observed. Also, the coating adheres closely to the matrix. The hydration resistance of the MgO-CaO clinker after treatment is improved greatly, and the castables prepared with the treated MgO-CaO clinker have better physical properties than MgO castable.

Effects of Several Factors on Viscosity of Alumina-Spinel Slurries

SHA Jianmin,LIU Kaiqi,LIU Zuocai(1)18
Abstract
The effects of several commercial dispersants, including AN-2000, ammonium polyacrylate, sodium tripolyphosphate, sodium hexametaphosphate, and of solids loading and of electro-fused magnesia on rheological properties of aqueous alumina-spinel slurries were studied. The results reveal that AN-2000 is the most effective one among the selected dispersants for alumina-spinel slurries. With 0.5% weight of AN-2000, the 57vol% solids loading alumina-spinel slurry with viscosity of 0.37 Pa¡¤s was obtained at shear rate of 50s-1.

Refractory Minerals in Henan Province

JIN Qingguo,LI Jing,LIU Jiehua and LIU Yanjun (1) 22
Abstract
Henan province is very rich in refractory minerals of many varieties including silica, dolomite, graphite, pearlite, sepiolite, olivine, and sillimanite group minerals, besides the abundant reserves of fireclay and bauxite, which lay a good foundation for the development of the refractories industry of the province. The paper introduces the reserves, distribution and character of the refractory minerals in Henan province.

Effect of Molding Press Direction on Properties of Periclase-Spinel-Carbon Brick

YANG Ding'ao,YU Zhiming,CHEN Shufeng,ZHANG Zunyu (1) 28
Abstract
The effect of press direction on the thermal expansion, slag resistance, etc. of periclase-spinel-carbon brick has been studied in this article. The results show that the thermal expansion rate in the direction parallel to the press axis is larger than that in the direction perpendicular to the press axis and the slag resistance in the direction parallel to the press axis is much better than that in the perpendicular direction. The directional distribution of graphite in the specimen is observed with the microscope.
