Highlights of Recent Advances in Refractories for Iron and Steel Industry in China

LI Tingshou1, ZHOU Ningsheng2 and SU Tiansen3
Abstract
The development of refractories industry is always intimately associated with its user industries, iron and steel industry in particular. Since entering into the 1990s, China¡¯s iron and steel industry has been undergoing eye-catching rapid development, not only merely in output, but also with more emphasis on structure adjustment, which has greatly promoted the technical progress of China¡¯s refractories industry. A great number of R & D achievements have been procured and widely applied. This paper will highlight new advances that recent years have witnessed, first in steel industry briefly, then focusing on new refractories that have made pronounced contributions to the vigorous development of steel industry, to offer information and help inspire new ideas for further development.

Development of Anti-creep Andalusite Based Bricks for Blast Furnace Stove

LIU Xiongzhang , ZHAO Huimin and CAO Hongfa
Abstract
Secondary mullitization and mineral phase compositions of reacting andalusite of different gain sizes with fine alumina powders are studied. By adopting reasonable process technology to control mullitization behavior during firing, good anti-creep andalusite bricks have been developed.
Key words: Andalusite, Mullitization behavior, Anti-creep

Sintering Manufacture Process Research on Special Ceramics Fe -Si3N4 bonded SiC

Peng Dayan and Zhang Yong
Abstract
By the method of TG-DSC (thermo gravimetric analysis ¨Cdifferential scanning calorimeter), the chemical reactions of Fe -Si3N4 bonded SiC during the sintering process in Nitriding Furnace have been studied. Analyses have been conducted on the reason of disintegration of specimens when ferro-silicon was added greater than 15% and on the method to reduce damage. The result indicated that there are mainly three important reactions occurred during the nitriding process of samples, they are: the oxidation of carbon, the melting of ferro-silicon and the nitriding of ferro ¨Csilicon. Controlling the balance of partial pressure of N2 and slowing down the rate of temperature rising can reduce the disintegration of samples.
Key words: Ferro ¨Csilicon nitride, Silicon carbide, Ferro ¨Csilicon

Investigation on Production and Markets of Silica Bricks in China

Zhang Zhongqi, Chu Guosheng, Wang Teizheng and Pan Shangxin
Abstract
The annual output of China¡¯s silica brick amounts up to over 300 thousand tons, which accounts for more than 70% of the total output of silica bricks in the world. Besides satisfying domestic markets, China¡¯s silica bricks have been exported to many countries and regions such as Japan, USA etc. In this paper, the situation of silica bricks production, technology, sales and exporting have been described. Also suggestions on improvement of silica bricks quality and exporting, corporation with foreign partners have been put forward in order to win larger market share both at home and abroad.

Thoughts on Strategic Development of China¡¯s Refractories Industry

Zhong Xiangchong
Abstract
For China¡¯s refractories industry, the first two decades in the new century would be a period of structural optimization with reorganization of refractories enterprises, reconstruction of manufacturing plants and restructuring of product varieties. An important strategic measure should be to develop high quality synthetic raw materials and high performance functional products mainly based on our rich natural resources to cope with new demands of advanced high temperature technologies
