Wear of MgO-C Refractories in EBT Type Furnaces Experienced at Iranian Mobarakeh Steel Plant

ABSTRACT
Mobarakeh Steel Company produces 3 million tons of steel annually with eight 180 tons EBT furnaces. Different types of magnesia-carbon refractories have been employed at slagline during last 5 years. In the present study the wear and corrosion of MgO-C refractories of these furnaces have been studied via post-mortem analysis of used bricks and the observation of operational effects. Laboratory corrosion tests were also arranged to investigate the effect of slag chemistry and the mechanism of chemical corrosion. Characterization of different magnesia-carbon bricks clarified that the crystal size, type and chemistry of magnesia as well as graphite structure have the main influence on corrosion resistance. The CaO:SiO2 ratio in slag also plays a vital role in the wear of slagline refractories. The iron oxide content of slag also has a major role in graphite oxidation. Of metallurgical parameters, the electric power input and the contact time have great influence on refractories life. The results will be discussed with emphasis on particular operational factors in Mobarakeh steel plant.

Adherence Characteristics of Cement Clinker on Basic Bricks

ABSTRACT
Based on the sandwich test, adherence mechanisms of cement clinker on various basic bricks were tackled by microstructural observations with help of cathodoluminescence technique. Doloma based bricks offer sufficient lime to react with clinker, forming C3S rich layer and initializing superior adherence. However, clinker with low silica ratio leads to MgO agglomeration at the interface of doloma bricks, which reduces adherence strength. On magnesia spinel bricks, fine, crystalline spinel easily reacts with lime containing phases from clinker to form low-melting phases and belite zone, which shows high adherence performance. Lack of fine spinel in magnesia spinel bricks results in poor adherence.

Henan olivine enjoys high reputation both at home and abroad due to its high performance. It is increasingly being used as mold sand for foundry filling materials and drawing-out agent for steel-making as well as raw materials in refractory industry. In the paper, specification, production and application of olivine originated in Henan province are introduced.

The Synthesis of ¦Â-Sialon Bonded Corundum Bricks from Al-Si Alloy

Abstract
The paper presents a new method to synthesize b-Sialon bonded corundum brick (¦Â-SBCB) from Al-Si alloy directly and easily under 1430 ¡æ,the volume expansion of reaction between Al powder and Nitrogen can help to establish the fast diffusion channel in Al-Si alloy; the suitable crystal seed of Si3N4 is helpful to the fast synthesis of b-Sialon.

Development and Application of High-Performance Magnesia-Chrome Bricks for RH Degasser

Abstract
The paper analyses the wear mechanism of magnesia-chrome bricks for snorkel of RH degasser. High-performance magnesia-chrome bricks with good resistance to molten slag and infiltration resistance have been manufactured by means of reasonable fabricating technology. The application results of the developed magnesia-chrome bricks at 300t RH degasser of Baosteel indicate that the lining life has been increased up to 150 heats.
