Looking Ahead-A New Generation of High Performance Refractory Ceramics
ZHONG Xiangchong (3) 3
ABSTRACT
It is expected that in the new century, to cope with developments of new high temperature technologies, a new generation of high performance refractory ceramics will emerge and flourish which should include the following (1) oxide and nonoxide composites characterized by a unique combination of high hot strength, high thermal shock resistance and high corrosion resistance; (2) free CaO bearing basic refractories capable of purifying molten metal for improving cleanliness and of absorbing contaminants from waste gases for reducing environmental pollution; (3) free flowing zero cement castables with improved thermomechanical properties, thermal shock resistance and corrosion resistance and gradient castables with varying matrix composition and varying texture.

Influence of Raw Material on the Properties of MgO-Al2O3-Cr2O3 Ramming Mixes
YANG Leqin, WANG Li, LIN Wanruo (3) 18
Abstract
MgO-Al2O3-Cr2O3 ramming mixes made of different raw materials have different mineral structure and different physical properties though with the identical particle size distribution, the same amount of binder and chemical composition. The residual carbon content of the fused magnesia-chrome material made in reducing atmosphere is very high, if this material is used in the MgO-Al2O3-Cr2O3 ramming mix, it would cause spalling of the furnace lining during drying-out.

Development and Application of Castables for Ladle Nozzle of Electric Arc Furnace
YANG Ding'ao, FAN Liuwu and YU Zhiming (3) 28
Abstract
The castables for ladle nozzle were developed using brown corundum as the main raw material and the right amounts of complex additives. The influence of several additives on the properties such as strength and permanent linear change of the samples was studied. The results showed that applying complex additives improved the strength and the volume stability of the castables greatly. The campaign of the castables for ladle nozzle has increased from about 40 heats to 70 heats.
