Microstructures and Corrosion Resistance of Al2O3-C Based Refractories to the Melts Containing Titania

Abstract
The corrosion resistance of the Al2O3-C based refractories in melts containing titania has been studied by quasistation immersion and rotary immersion. The corrosion rate is decreased with the addition of graphite carbon and ZrO2 in the refractories. The corrosion mechanism of Al2O3-C refractories is the oxidization of graphite carbon by the oxides of the melts and the formation of deteriorate layer. For the Al2O3-C ZrO2 refractories, the corrosion behavior is due to the interaction between melts and refractories. The new compounds of FeO.SiO2, SiZrO4, FeO.3CaO, 2CaO.SiO2 and CaO.SiO2 are formed in the deteriorate layer.ª¤

Abstract
The rapid development of our country's heavy non-ferrous metallurgical technology and the revolution in new type of heavy non-ferrous metallurgical furnace have imposed more critical demand on the refractory materials, i.e. high quality and long service life. This paper presents the domestic status of the refractories for flash furnace, briefly describes the wear of the refractory used, and it is considered that the domestic in refractories for flash furnace can be surely realized.ª¤

ZrO2 containing refractories have been increasingly used for cement rotary kilns. This paper discusses how the properties and performance of ZrO2 containing refractories are improved in terms of chemical attack resistance, thermal shock resistance, thermal conductivity and mechanical stress.ª¤

Study on Synthesis of Nanometer SiC Precursors with Sol-Gel of SiO2 Lignin in the Pulp Black Liquor

Abstract
In the process of synthesis of nanometer SiC precursors with sol-gel of SiO2 and lignin, the products of all sizes required can be controlled by the concentration of reactants, pH, temperature, reaction and ageing time, and so on .The best conditions in this research are : the concentration of Na2SiO3 and organic matters are 4.50% and 26.4% respectively, pH=3.3 ,T=65¡æ, ageing time is 30min, dried at 150¡æ , the size of SiC precursors is about 2.0¦Ìm .

Effect of Additives on Properties of MgO-ZrO2-C Material

Abstract
The paper describes the effect of additives Al, Si, SiC and B4C on the expansion of MgO-ZrO2-C material after being coked. The results indicate that Al and Si can not increase its hot and cold strength. Al and Si were oxidized to form Al2O3 and SiO2 respectively, and then reacted with CaZrO3 or stabilizer in c-ZrO2 to form calcium aluminate, spinel(MA), dicalcium silicate(C 2S) and forsterite (M2S). Meanwhile, ¦Á-C2S was transformed to¦Ã-C2S and c-ZrO2 to m-ZrO2 when temperature changed. All the above reactions resulted in the decrease of the amount of Al4C3 and SiC and the increase in bulk volume, which caused the structure of MgO-ZrO2C material destroyed. Hence, contrary to the MgO-C material, when adding Al, and Si, the MgO-ZrO2C material would be structurally deteriorated after heat-treatment and its strength and corrosion resistance decreased.

Abstract
Upon the invitation by the Refractories Association of Great Britain, DMG Midia Ltd, Unitec Ceramics Ltd, LAEIS Bucher GmbH and Nabertherm Ceramics Ltd, the Association of China Refractories Industry (ACRI) dispatched a delegation consisted of ten persons to pay an official visit at the above organizations and companies during October 9th to 25th, 2001. The report describes the visiting the achievements including what they have learned and what they have experienced.
