Outlook on Refractories Development in China in the New Century

Abstract:
The trends of refractories development in China in the new century have been discussed. The main R & D themes for the first decade are suggested to be as follows: (1) High quality synthetic raw materials based on our rich resources of bauxite and magnesite; (2) High performance functional refractories mostly based on synthetic raw materials; (3) Oxide and nonoxide composite materials principally for applications at critical areas of high temperature new technologies.

On the Measurement of Cement Clinker's Adherence on Basic Refractories

Abstract:
A new sandwich test has been developed to measure the adherence of cement clinker on basic refractories to test their coatability. Statistical designs of experiment methodology were employed for evaluations of the sandwich test. Three fractional factorial tests and one full factorial test were executed to efficiently generate data that reveal the significance of the major factors and the ruggedness to the minor factors. Its repeatability and reproducibility have been statistically confirmed to be acceptable. Evaluations on various basic bricks by the sandwich test reflect their coating performance in rotary kiln.

New Applications of Some High Technologies in Refractories

Abstract:
The potential applications of some high technologies in refractories, such as, nanotechnology, inª²situ synthesis, selfª²propagating highª²temperature synthesis functional gradient materials, computer assisted design and some new advanced refractories in Si Al ON system are briefly described. The characteristics and preparation processes of these new refractories are introduced, and the remaining problems awaiting effective solutions are pointed out. Some suggestions on future direction of research and development are fitly made.

Slag Corrosion Resistance of¦Â-Sialon-Al2O3 Composites-Part II, Kinetics

Abstract:
The kinetic process of slag corrosion for ¦ÂSialon and ¦ÂSialon Al
£²O£³composites has been studied by means of dip method (static and selfª²rotating).The corrosion model is built and the formula of corrosion rate is deduced,which are in accordance with experimental results.
