Development of Modern Steel Making and Optimization of Refractory Materials

SU Tiansen (2) 3
Abstract:
The developing trends and characteristics of modern steel making technology have been analyzed in this paper.Accordingly, the optimization orientation of refractory materials to adapt the developing trends is stated.Furthermore,a point of view that refractories should advance along the direction of "longer service life,nonª²pollution,multiª²function"is put forward.

Synthetic Raw Materials for Refractories in China

SHI Gan and YUE Weidong (2) 20
Abstract:
The development and status of synthetic raw materials for refractories in China are reviewed, including magnesiteª²based materials, alumina, mullite, calcium aluminate cement, ultrafine powder, spinel, silicon carbide and cordierite. The research work on calcium zirconate and sialon materials are also introduced.

Sprayable Castables, the Effect of Sample Preparation on Properties

Bjorn Myhre, Cecilie Odegard and Heidi Feldhorg (2) 26
Abstract:
Two alumina based castables, low and ultralowª²cement,and one castable based on a basic bond system of MgO and microsilica were spray gunned using a proprietary accellerator and commercially available equipment.Besides being sprayed, also shoe box sized samples were cast prior to the spraying.Together with samples cast in the laboratory, these three samples and compositions were tested and compared.
